Piper’s Little White Dog is a charming and tender story about the joys, quirks, and comforts of a child’s best companion. Set in the lively household of Piper, who has three energetic older brothers, the book captures the gentle mischief, warmth, and routines of family life through the eyes of Piper’s devoted little white dog.

Piper’s little white dog is impeccably well-behaved—he doesn’t chase cars, steal donuts, or chew shoes—and yet he is full of personality and charm. He greets Piper when she comes home, snuggles with her on the couch, and waits faithfully at her bedroom door every night. Together, Piper and her little white dog navigate the busy sounds and chaos of her bustling home, finding comfort, laughter, and companionship in each other.

Illustrated by debut artist Liam Henry, the book’s gentle, expressive artwork brings each scene to life, highlighting the warm relationship between Piper and her dog against the backdrop of an active, loving family.

What Readers Are Saying

Piper’s Little White Dog is such a sweet and relatable story! My son, Daniel (7), especially loves how Piper has much older and bigger brothers. That dynamic felt so true to life for him.
One little detail that stood out and made us smile is how one of Piper’s brothers high-fives the door frame when he walks through. Daniel noticed that right away, because his own brother does the exact same thing!
And, the illustrations bring this gentle and fun story to life beautifully. Piper’s Little White Dog is a refreshing return to classic children’s storytelling!”

“This book is excellent for early readers! Children from 3–7 years can engage in early literacy by ‘reading’ the pictures and remembering the repeating phrases, while older children can practice phonics, silent e, and digraphs. The illustrations are charming, and kids will love following Piper and her little white dog.”

About the Author

Nan Magee writes from a love of language, quiet observation, and the belief that children’s stories should honor the depth of their inner worlds. A poet and lifelong lover of books, Nan draws inspiration from gardens, porches, and the small everyday rituals that bring comfort and connection.

Her debut picture book, Piper’s Little White Dog, grew from a poem she wrote in a local poetry class called Ode to Dog’s I Have Lived With. Nan’s writing is grounded in rhythm and lyricism, inviting both children and adults to slow down, listen, and share in the beauty of a well-told story.

When she isn’t writing, Nan can often be found rowing on the Schuylkill River.
